Our 10th Annual Deaf Awareness Day was such a fun time! This Friday event had perfect weather, we played a good game and led the Winston-Salem Dash by 2 runs, and the fireworks at the end of the game were magnificent! 130 attendees joined us to help celebrate a decade of Deaf Awareness Day at the ballpark.
Two Deaf Education students from Johnson Street Global Studies Elementary signed the National Anthem, and Hope McLellan Hundley threw the first pitch! Hope is an especially important figure in the history of CSDHH, as 50 years ago this year her father, the Reverend Aubrey McLellan, founded CSDHH to ensure that Hope and all other members of the local Deaf and Hard of Hearing community had equal access. We were honored to have Hope join us for this momentous occasion.
Several of our attendees participated in the Grasshoppers' fun activities, having fun and winning prizes!
We again partnered with Cynthia Poupard of Cynthia's Creations & More, and 11 lucky winners received a commemorative tumbler with a custom design by Cynthia, celebrating 10 years of this fun event! We also gave each of the National Anthem signers and Hope Hundley a cup as a small token of our appreciation. Thank you, Cynthia!
We are so lucky to have a 10-year history of collaboration with the Greensboro Regional Center of the Division of Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to plan and coordinate this event, and appreciate all of their work to help ensure this event is fun, accessible, and successful.
