New Program Announcement

We have been excited to recently start to return to offering in-person events. Since March 2022, we have slowly started our Silent Dinner events again. They have met once a month at a different local restaurant in Greensboro. We have enjoyed seeing folks again, and hope the community has enjoyed them as well.

We are announcing today the start of a new monthly program, and a few other changes to allow for more social opportunities. We will begin a new monthly event: Sip & Sign. This event will meet monthly at a local business, such as coffee shops, breweries, wine bars, and other locations. We plan to use this as an opportunity also to support locally-owned small businesses, which have struggled to stay open due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This program will begin soon, with our first Sip & Sign event scheduled for Thursday, July 28, from 6:30pm-8:30pm. We will meet at Southend Brewing in Downtown Greensboro. They have a huge patio, with lots of seating and tables, lots of food options, and tasty beer. We hope to see you there.

This new program has caused us to re-evaluate the presentation and branding Silent Dinner events, and we have realized that this name needed an update. Starting in August, this event will now be called ‘Signing Dinner’. The concept will be the same as always: for folks to get together and socialize using ASL, open to Deaf community members, interpreters, teachers, students learning sign language, and anyone else. The new name and branding better reflects this concept. We look forward to seeing you at our next Signing Dinner on August 10 at CAVA.

Together, Sip & Sign and Signing Dinner are called Signing Social events. This collective name reflects that both events are ASL-focused, and open to any ASL users and learners. Signing Dinner events meet at a restaurant, and Sip & Sign events meet at a local cafe, brewery, or bar. There may be future pop-up or recurring Signing Social events, in addition to Signing Dinner and Sip & Sign.
