CSDHH Human Race Virtual Run/Walk Group

Weekly Virtual Run/Walk

Video in ASL, message equivalent to English below

We want to really build excitement and have fun getting ready for The Human Race on June 20. So, we’re hosting a Weekly Virtual Run/Walk that we’d love you to join!

Once a week, we’ll host a quick Instagram Live Video to get everyone together. Then, everyone will run or walk on their own at the same time, using an app to track the walk/run. When you finish your walk/run, post a screenshot showing your time and distance to our Facebook event page and on Instagram with the hashtag #csdhhTHR. Then, after the walk/run, we’ll host an ASL Zoom meeting (link in Facebook event!) that everyone can join to chat and hang out after the run/walk.

View the specifics below to learn more, and plan to join us each week! Be sure to check out our Facebook page and our Instagram page, as that’s where we’ll post the events, the Instagram Live videos, and the link to the Zoom hangout afterwards!

Apps to Use

There are tons of free apps to use to track your run or walk. They will show you the distance, time, average pace, and even a map of your route! Here are some we recommend using: all are available on Android and iOS, and all can be used free.

Note: We recommend downloading the app ahead of time, so that you can make sure it’s all set up and ready to use. You might have to grant it permissions, such as to run in the background, use your location services, and allow notifications.

How to post

Every week, we’ll have a Facebook event page made for that week’s run/walk.

When we all start running/walking at the same time, make sure to use one of the apps listed above to track your run/walk. When you’re done, take a screenshot of your awesome work! Note: make sure your screenshot only shows stats; please exclude the map or any specific location data. We just need to see that you ran, no one needs to know where! (See below for an example)

Then, post this screenshot both to the Weekly Facebook event discussion, and also to Instagram with the hashtag #csdhhTHR.

How to get to 5k?

A 5k (3.1 mile) race is a great, beginner-friendly race. From the launch of this page, we have 10 weeks before the June 20 Human Race, which is plenty of time to work up to the full 3.1 mile distance, whether you’re walking or running.

We’ve included a sample schedule for informational purposes only. CSDHH accepts no responsibility or liability for anyone running or walking following this schedule. This is designed as an example of a schedule working towards 3.1 miles. Individuals should ensure they are in good health, do the proper research and planning, and consult with their doctor before beginning any new exercise routine.

For a more detailed training plan, we recommend checking out the plans at this website.
