CSDHH is thrilled to partner with RiverRun International Film Festival, PBS North Carolina, and the Forsyth County Central Library for a free preview screening of the film “The Tuba Thieves,” by deaf filmmaker Alison O’Daniel.

After the film screening, there will be a panel discussion of local Deaf community members and leaders, facilitated by filmmaker Joe Cornelius, Professor of Media Production at Queens University of Charlotte.

The event is free, but an RSVP is requested: https://riverrunfilm.com/the-tuba-thieves/. The film will be open-captioned, and ASL interpreters and CART will be available for the post-screening panel and discussion.

About the Film:

What is the role of sound and what does it mean to listen? Hard of hearing filmmaker Alison O’Daniel uses a series of tuba thefts in Los Angeles high schools as a jumping-off point to explore these questions. Through several d/Deaf people telling stories in a unique game of telephone, the central mystery of The Tuba Thieves isn’t about theft of instruments; it’s about the nature of sound itself.
