21st Annual Community Appreciation Event

Just as a flower needs sunlight, water, and soil to thrive, we all need a nurturing environment and supportive relationships to grow. The Community Appreciation Event, sponsored by Communication Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CSDHH) and the NC Division of Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DSDHH), provides just that — a space for connection, learning, and personal growth.

For 21 years, 200–250 Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind individuals from across North Carolina have gathered to celebrate community, exchange resources, and support one another. Each year’s event features educational presentations designed around a central theme.

This year, our theme is “Live in Full Bloom: Fostering Self-Care and Growth.” Join us on Thursday, December 5th, from 5:00–7:30 PM to explore ways to nurture your well-being, expand your skills, and flourish in everyday life.

The evening will include presentations from local experts, a catered dinner, and exciting door prizes — all designed to help you grow and connect. Attendance is free, but space is limited, so RSVP early to secure your spot and bloom with us!

Bur-Mil Clubhouse Location

Driving up to the Bur-Mil Clubhouse you will see a large parking lot on the left across from a golf course. You do not have to pay to park in this lot. There are no steps walking from the parking lot to the clubhouse is flat. If needed, you can also use the semi circle in front of the building to drop off folks first then go park. You cannot park your car anywhere in the semi circle!

In past years, folks could come to Community Appreciation without registering before. Now due to limited seating, we are asking everyone to RSVP in advance. Make sure you save your seat now! You can RSVP by clicking the button below and typing in all of your information.

Registration is closed for this event. We are in a new location with limited capacity, and all available registrations have been filled. There will be no on-site registration, and only those who completed the RSVP will be admitted.

Accommodation Services

Community appreciation will be presented in American Sign Language (ASL) with spoken English and real-time captions. If you are DeafBlind and need another accommodation such as close vision ASL interpreting, haptics, tactile ASL, or transportation, please add this information to your registration.

The deadline to request an accommodation is Monday, November 3rd!
