Sign and Stride is an ASL walk/run club that meets every other Tuesday at 6:00pm. Run or walk, all paces, any distance. ASL is the language of the event. Join us to get outside, get moving, & make few friends—all while using ASL.
Location and Parking
We meet near the tennis courts at Latham Park, where the path curves up to the road. This is on your right just after you turn to stay on Cridland Rd. See photo below.
There is street parking all along Cridland Rd.
Schedule
Route
We will run and walk south along the Latham Park greenway, later connecting with the Hill St. Connector trail, then the Lake Daniel greenway. We recommend checking out this map of the Greensboro area trails and greenways to familiarize yourself. Click here to view a static map of the route.
Some things to note:
You’ll cross Hill St. just past the skate park; turn left.
After turning left on Hill St., keep right on the Hill St. Connector trail, in between the storage building and the other buildings.
Cross Battleground Ave. and then Smith St. using the crosswalk and signals. Please be safe and follow traffic laws.
After Smith St., go straight and follow the sidewalk to Mendenhall St., turn right, and soon keep right onto the Lake Daniel greenway.
On the Lake Daniel greenway, you’ll cross Garland Dr., and soon after you’ll curve to the right over a bridge. After that, keep right over another bridge.
The greenway goes under Josephine Boyd St.; be careful, as it can be dark and slippery. You can also go up the hill to the sidewalk, and cross at the crosswalk there.
Distance Planning
You set your distance (and pace). We’ll aim for out-and-back courses. See below for approximate turn around spots based around how much distance you want:
1 mile - turn around just after crossing over Hill St.
2 miles - turn around in Lake Daniel Park, a little bit before the basketball court
3 miles - turn around just before crossing under Josephine Boyd St.
4 miles - turn around at Campus Drive along Benjamin Pkwy.
5 miles - turn around a little after the greenway veers left to run alongside Wendover Ave.
If you’re running more than 5 miles, we trust you’ll figure out the best place to turn around.
Tips to Keep in Mind
Wear comfortable, supportive shoes made for running or walking.
Most days will be hot. Drink plenty of water during the day beforehand, and feel free to bring water with you.
Apply sunscreen.
Wear comfortable, breathable clothes.
Consider planning to: stretch before, warm up, stretch after, cool down.
Get Started Running or Walking
If you’re unsure of how to best get started, we recommend researching guides or resources made by qualified professionals. There are many options out there to learn good form, to find training plans that can work you up to running (ex. couch to 5K programs), and to review other guidelines. In general, start small and gradually work up, paying attention to your body and how it feels.
