Information and Referral (No charge)
Information on any issue related to deafness and hearing loss can be obtained at CSDHH. We offer educational presentations for groups, businesses or civic organizations that can be tailored to your specific needs.
Advocacy and Client Services (No charge)
CSDHH advocates issues on individual and organizational levels. Examples of past advocacy projects are: Helping professionals establish policies for hiring interpreters, and finding assistive listening devices (ALDs) for public places.
Spoken and written English are different from American Sign Language (ASL). CSDHH offers individualized client services to bridge this barrier and assist in handling various everyday situations.
Sign Language Classes (Fee)
Community sign language classes are sponsored by CSDHH and offered throughout the year. Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced classes are taught by qualified instructors. The curriculum focuses on learning both sign language and deaf culture. Private classes can be arranged for businesses, churches and civic groups. The curriculum in private classes can be planned to satisfy the needs of your group.
Sign Language Interpreting (Fee)
A sign language interpreter's purpose is to allow deaf and hearing individuals to communicate clearly and without misunderstanding. Interpreters are most often used in medical, legal, employment and educational settings. CSDHH can arrange an interpreter for you on a scheduled or emergency basis.
Captioning (Fee)
Captioning services
provide accessible communication for persons who are Hard of Hearing
and who do not use sign language. Captioning provides real-time
written text in any setting and can be projected onto a small screen
for one person or through an LCD projector for a large audience.
Services can be provided on-site or remotely via the internet. Communication
Access Realtime Translation (CART) and Computer Assisted Notetaking
(CAN) are two of the captioning services provided by CSDHH.
